Keep It Clean

So you just received your beautiful handmade, and/or vintage #folkessence in the mail, and now you would like to know how to properly care for it. Here is all the tea (in case you spill all the tea) on how to care for your beloved pieces.

First things first, I would just like to remind you, that your #folkessence is meant to be worn, used, enjoyed. Please do not adore it behind a glass wall (unless that's your thing) because truly their purpose is to bring you joy, and sparkle up your everyday life. I guarantee, the quality is extremely durable, and it can be washed and cleaned to satisfactory.

That being said, because many of these pieces are vintage/handmade, there are in fact special care tips that are recommended to ensure the quality and freshness, even after years of use.

First off, I recommend using an all natural homemade wash detergent. This has less to do with the clothes, and much more to do with you, darling. Conventional laundry detergent has loads of chemicals like sulfates, fragrances, and phenols. Some may even contain things like petroleum distillates, which are linked to cancer and lung disease. Yikes! Fragrances in these detergents are made of a mix of harmful chemicals, that by all means, we should be avoiding.

Here are my personal favorite all natural laundry soap recipes (dry and liquid):

I usually always recommend hand washing your vintage/handmade fabrics, although, unless stated otherwise, machine washing on a “delicate” setting will also work fine. Remember, many of these fabrics have intricate handmade stitching and weaving involved, so handwashing is just better for them in the long run. If you are short on time, or just way too busy, you can always send them to dry cleaning as well.

Now that we have a quality detergent, it’s now time to roll your sleeves up and get to it. So as mentioned above, you can delicately machine wash, or send them off to dry cleaning, but our most recommended method of cleaning would be hand washing.
